Considered to be the most important factor in fashioning a nation, this supreme legislative body, being the only one with parliamentary sovereignty, which gives it ruling power over any and all groups or bodies in the UK and its legal territories, is lead by the Sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II.

Proudly tracing their origins in politics to Anglo-Saxon Witenagemot, the British Parliament continues to stand today. Shortly following, in 1066, William of Normandy introduced the feudal system. In 1215, King John produced the Magna Carta and this extremely important document was responsible for placing boundaries on the present King regarding taxes to be collected.

It was in 1265 that the very first British Parliament began to be noticed. Due to the practice of politics being observed the world over, Great Britain was quickly known for their intelligence, fairness, and practice of politics. By 1295, Parliament was separated into two houses, and both of which are still ultimately governed by the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The former consisting mainly of knights and burgess' in long ago times, but as politics change quite often the House of Commons now mainly consists of everyday people like you and I, and the House of Lords is those with nobility and clergy.

In 1649, the abolishment of the House of Lords was made public and it wasn't until later following the deferment of the House of Commons to Cromwell, that all of Great Britain and the people there in re-established the House of Commons. With the formation of these two houses in the British Parliament, there was an extreme protection put into affect for the many people of Great Britain. This protection came in the form of control over the tax system, informing everyone that no laws or taxes could be levied before consulting both Houses, and recording their answers. Great Britain remains one of the most powerful and successful countries today. Their hard work and dedication in the politics arena promises and great future.
